Other Electives

Here are additional electives you can choose from, up to the limit which applies to your degree - Other electives

Elective choices

Elective units in the Master/GradDip of Public Health programs have been designed to give you the choice of either:

  • following a specialised pathway in an area that is relevant to your career interest, or
  • developing a broad knowledge of public health practice.

The specialised career pathways include:

  • Public health research
  • Injury prevention and control
  • Chronic disease control
  • Communicable disease control and environmental health
  • Health promotion
  • Health economics and health policy
  • HIV/STIs
  • Oral health

The table below details the units of study suggested for each specialised pathway. You may choose to enrol in all the units recommended for a particular pathway, combine some of the units for a particular pathway with units of interest from other pathways, or you may wish to choose units from each of the various pathways.

Table: Master of Public Health pathways

Choosing your electives

To help you in your choice of electives, a series of seminars is scheduled towards the end of Semester 1, where you can find out more and ask questions about choosing elective units of study.

It is necessary for you to decide on your elective units before the end of Semester 1. The University will issue you with an 'enrolment confirmation' form, where it is your responsibility to ensure that all your course information is recorded correctly. You must inform Postgraduate Administration, in writing, if this is not the case. Any failure to do so is likely to result in incorrect enrolment, and errors cannot be adjusted retrospectively after the census dates (March 31 for Semester 1, and August 31 for Semester 2). Alterations may result in changes to the calculation of fees payable.
