A/Prof Philip Clarke and Dr Alison Hayes presented at a workshop at Harvard University
Toward a Global Perspective on the Economics of Treating and Preventing Diabetes. The workshop was jointly organised by A/Prof Philip Clarke and A/Prof Joshua Salomon from Harvard University. The primary aim of workshop is to gain an understanding the potential economic and human burden of diabetes in low and middle income countries and to evaluate potential strategies for prevention and treatment.
Economics of Prevention Workshop, 13 March 2009
Economists in the Sydney School of Public Health as part of the Health Economics Collaboration, hosted a workshop on the Economics of Prevention: Developing a Framework for Policy Analysis in the light of the increasing focus of the Australian Government on Preventative Health. The primary purpose of the workshop was to discuss an economic framework to decide on the best way of allocating more resources to prevention and promotion.
It was attended by over 100 delegates from industry, academia, non-government organisations and various departments of government from Australia and New Zealand.

The Health Economics Collaboration
Economists from the Sydney School of Public Health participate in the Health Economics Collaboration (HEC) a network of economists based at Universities within NSW. HEC currently includes economists from the Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney, the George Institute for International Health and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of NSW. HEC hosts seminars and runs workshops and short courses to foster the exchange of ideas between Health Economists and increase awareness about the field of Health Economics.
